Ingrid’s Story
What’s on Ingrid’s plate?
The family’s favourite way to enjoy turkey is cooking the whole bird on the barbeque.
After graduating university in 1983, Ingrid and Ron moved from Toronto to a rural location in Ontario and in 1991 they began raising turkeys. Today, their family-operated farm raises 700,000 kg of turkeys per year but that is not all that they take care of. With the help of their sons, Adam and Greg, they grow 800 acres of crops including wheat, soybeans, corn and hay.
Their daughter, Megan (pictured with Ingrid), is finishing her Masters in Poultry Nutrition and they look forward to her involvement providing nutritional expertise to their operation. Megan admits her pride comes from the success of the farm which is based on the hard work of the family, specifically her parents. “Growing up on the farm taught me about the satisfaction that comes from creating strong family relationships and working hard together.”
Ingrid claims the secret to success on the farm is paying attention to the details. “We keep detailed records and monitor many variables,” she explains. “We also take pride in doing things well, being good stewards of the land and protecting the well-being of our flock. We spend a great deal of time in the barns ensuring that our turkeys are comfortable and well cared for.”
