Turkey Chili Nachos
Makes: 6 servings
What you need:
- 1 tbsp (15 mL) oil
- 1 lb (500 g) ground Ontario turkey
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 tsp (5 mL) dried oregano
- 1/2tsp (2 mL) each: chili powder, cumin
- to taste salt and pepper
- 1 cup (250 mL) cooked black beans
- 1 can (7.5 oz) tomato sauce
- 1 pkg. (320 g) white corn tortilla chips
- 1/2 each: red and green sweet peppers, diced
- 1 to 2 jalapeno peppers, minced
- 1/2cup (125 mL) black olives, optional
- 2 cups (500 mL) Monterey Jack cheese, shredded
- Guacamole, sour cream
Make it Super:
In large skillet over medium-high heat, heat oil. Stir in turkey, breaking up with spoon; cook until no longer pink. Stir in onion, garlic, oregano, chili powder and cumin; cook until onion is soft. Season with salt and pepper. Stir in black beans and tomato sauce; simmer until heated through.
Place corn tortillas onto large baking sheet, spoon turkey chili over top. Sprinkle with peppers and olives, if desired. Sprinkle with cheese. Bake at 425°F (220°C) about 5 minutes or until cheese melts. Serve with guacamole and sour cream.
